Port Macquarie: Body found in search for missing man John Davidson

Police believe they have found the body of a man missing for seven months.

Authorities have been searching for John Davidson since he was last seen at his home at Mount Hutton in Lake Macquarie in November 2022.

The 72-year-old suffered from dementia, prompting concerns for his wellbeing and a frantic search by police, trail bike officers, PolAir, NSW SES, family and community members

His family said that he went on his daily walk but for “some reason” he never made it home.

A member of the public was bushwalking through the Belmont Wetlands near the Kalaroo Road fire trains on Saturday when they discovered human remains and personal belongings according to police.

Officers moved in to set up a crime scene, with the remains being tested to confirm their identity.

“While the remains are yet to be formally identified, they are believed to be that of the missing 72-year-old man,” a police spokesperson said.

His family had spoken to the media in January, saying that they were waiting for answers about their beloved husband and father.

“Now we just live day to day because we don’t have any closure, we don’t really have any idea where he is,” his wife Karen Radford told NBN news.

They acknowledged that after months of searching, there was little chance he would be found alive.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
