Real estate Sydney: Audio billionaires iconic sky-high penthouse up for grabs

Life at Ikon in Potts Point is clearly iconic for residents given that audio king billionaire Peter Freedman is downsizing his city-fringe bolthole within the building.

The move is likely a temporary endeavour as the entrepreneur, who owns Rode Microphones, purchased nearby Potts Point landmark Jenner House in May for $30.35m and is currently having it renovated.

Freedman put his three-bedroom 300sqm penthouse in the Macleay St tower on the market within days of the news breaking that he’s the purchaser of the two-bedroom sub-penthouse sold by prestige off-the-plan specialist Ben Stewart of Stewart Residential.

That $8.2m exchange for the 150sqm apartment was brokered by Jason Boon of Richardson & Wrench with TRG Founder Gavin Rubinstein acting on Freedman’s behalf as buyer’s agent.

Rubinstein is now working on the sale of Freedman’s larger residence with a $17m guide. It broke local price records when it last sold for $16m in 2018.

It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and has three car spots.

Says Rubinstein: “This rare offering speaks for itself with uninterrupted iconic views over two levels in the coveted Ikon building.”

The spacious north-east facing split-level home has those city and harbour views from every room.

On the main living level, the grand entertainment space flows through to a wide dining terrace capturing sweeping views over Sydney, while the state-of-the-art gas kitchen houses a suite of Miele appliances.

Off the kitchen, a second lounge area and dining room feed to an east-facing balcony with views of Rushcutters Bay and out to Watsons Bay.

The upper level plays host to three bedrooms, each with custom-made built-ins and balcony access.

What momentum will national prices take into Spring?

The palatial main has an ensuite with dual vanities plus a walk-in wardrobe.

Additional features include a full-sized main bathroom, a powder room, a linen room, airconditioning, extra storage, a video security intercom and a triple lock-up garage.

Residents of the building in the heart of Potts Point have access to a 24-hour concierge service, swimming pool, spa, sauna and gym.

Ikon is surrounded by bustling bars and eateries close to Kings Cross Station.
